TOUR OF PARTNER COUNTRY CHALLENGES FOR ECO-TRANSH

Generational renewal and the attractiveness of the livestock farming and transhumance professions are major challenges in many countries, including France, Italy, Greece, Romania, Morocco and Mongolia. These countries share similar problems, with their own cultural, economic and environmental specificities.

The objective of the meeting in Greece is the exchange of ideas to co-construct concerted answers to the problem of generational renewal. Like other agricultural professions, transhumance is no longer attractive, as young people have a negative perception of it (long working hours, low pay, poor image). As a result, farmers retiring are rarely replaced. Transhumance faces the same difficulties but has a number of assets that could make it more attractive.

All countries wish to encourage young people to stay in or return to rural areas, and to establish viable, livable, equitable, and therefore sustainable productions.

During the our conference, we will compare the responses provided by each country to the problem of generational renewal. We will thus meet the needs of the 3 target audiences: – The learners As future professionals, they must receive a suitable training. – Teachers Contextualized training engineering must be offered to them – The general public To recognize transhumant breeders and shepherds as actors in the ecological and economic transition of rural territories, the general public must To be informed and aware to the transhumance trades. During our meeting, we will present for the first time our mini clip, created by students from all partners/members, showcasing transhumance in their country. The project's strong international dimension and the raising of awareness among all audiences through our mini-clip will foster greater open-mindedness and create a sense of belonging to a European, or even international, community.

School Trip Itinerary to Athens, Greece. November 4 to 8, 2024 Monday, November 4: Arrival in Athens, Tuesday, November 05: Presence of local and regional authorities, the University. Presentation of participants and their agricultural educational institutions + videoconference. Tour of the Greek institution's infrastructure, with local teachers and students as guides. Wednesday, November 06: Visit to a village where most inhabitants are transhumant, Steering Committee Meeting + free visit for students. Thursday, November 07: Working group with all students: review the results of work already done, and discuss the next steps. Friday, November 8th: Return to France.
